Vintage Fishing Patch Medium Cedar Bucket Bag

Sometimes a vintage patch is just too good to leave behind.

I found this wonderfully bold fishing patch at the same antique mall where I discovered a collection of vintage outdoor and USFS patches from the 1970s. I loved the colors immediately and knew this one needed to become something special.

Instead of simply adding the patch to a bag, we used its colors as inspiration for the entire design.

Bright orange. Golden yellow. Black.

The result is a seriously fun Medium Cedar Bucket Bag built around one great old fishing patch.

Built Around the Patch

The main body is made from rugged orange 10.1 oz waxed canvas with three golden yellow exterior pockets and a contrasting black waxed canvas bottom.

Front and center is the vintage embroidered fishing patch that started the whole idea.

It's colorful, a little retro and definitely not a bag that's going to disappear into the background.

The three outside pockets are double layered for added structure and durability, with plenty of room for frequently used gear while the large center compartment handles the rest.

Built to Age Beautifully

We use heavy duty waxed canvas because it's meant to be used.

Scratches, creases and scuffs become part of the fabric's character over time, developing the beautiful patina that makes waxed canvas so distinctive.

Add in a vintage patch that already has a story behind it, and this is a bag that should only get better with age.

This particular combination was built around one vintage fishing patch, so once this bag is gone, this exact version won't be made again.

Sometimes you find the fabric first.

Sometimes you start with an idea.

And sometimes you find one ridiculously colorful old fishing patch and build an entire bag around it.
