This one started long before we sat down at the sewing machine.
My daughter and I had a collection of wonderful Halloween decorations from the 1920s featuring black cats, owls, witches and pumpkins. We loved the artwork so much that we decided to see if we could give it a completely new life.
We photographed the original images, digitally worked with them to create our own repeating pattern, and then had our finished design printed onto fabric.
And then we got to make something with it.
For this Small Cedar Bucket Bag, we paired our custom orange Halloween fabric with black waxed canvas. The Halloween fabric wraps all the way around the three exterior pockets, letting different pieces of the century old artwork peek out around the bag.

From 1920s Halloween Decorations to Fabric
This is the part that makes this bag especially fun for us.
We didn't buy Halloween fabric and build a bag around it. We created the fabric ourselves.
The wide eyed owl, grinning pumpkin, wonderfully startled black cat and witch all came from Halloween imagery dating back more than a century. My daughter and I photographed the original pieces and then worked digitally to turn those individual images into a pattern we could have printed onto fabric.
Now those old Halloween characters get to head out on entirely new adventures.
Built to Age Beautifully
The black waxed canvas will soften, crease and develop a patina as you use it. Those marks aren't flaws. They're part of what makes waxed canvas so much fun to carry.
Over time, the bag becomes uniquely yours.
Limited Edition
We created this fabric specifically for our own projects, and we're only making a limited number of pieces with it.
That also means this isn't something you'll find on another maker's shelf. It started with our own collection of old Halloween decorations, became a mother and daughter design project, and eventually made its way into our Washington workshop.
A little bit of Halloween history, brought back to life in a completely new way.
