Featuring an Original 1950s Audubon Snow Bunting Illustration
Sometimes a favorite book deserves a second life.
Before this Make It Monday project, I began experimenting with a way to preserve vintage bird illustrations from a 1950s edition of Audubon's Birds of America. Each original book page is carefully backed with fabric, treated with multiple layers of archival adhesive, and finished with a waterproof protective coating. The result is a flexible, durable artwork that can become part of a handmade piece of gear while preserving the beauty of the original illustration.
When Make It Monday rolled around, our community chose to feature one of these handcrafted bird panels on this notebook cover, pairing it with medium brown waxed canvas.
The result is a notebook cover that's equal parts craftsmanship, experimentation, and history.

A second layer of tan waxed canvas lines the interior, adding strength, structure, and years of dependable use.
